Phase V. Examination

Diploma Thesis Text Assessment by the Examination Committee
For the examination to take place, after the proper documents are sent to the department’s secretariat, a three-member Examination Committee is formed in order to evaluate and assess the overall performance of the student. The committee together with the student arrange for an examination date, where the student must present their work and findings making a presentation. One week prior the examination date, the supervisor may send the diploma text digitally to the other two members of the committee, as well as the results of the plagiarism text, to be assessed.

Open Presentation of the Diploma to the Examination Committee
An open presentation of the Diploma takes place, where the student presents the results of his/her work. The Diploma presentation is given by the student, and should not exceed 30 minutes. Although a well-prepared power-point presentation is usually used, any media the student believes should be added to the presentation are welcomed. If the diploma includes the making of a prototype, a demonstration of its functionality can also follow the presentation. The presentation is open to the public and the supervisor may announce it via the department’s announcement board or website.

Diploma Defense by Answering Committee's Questions
After the thesis presentation is completed by the student, he/she must defend his/her diploma statement and work by accurately and properly answering a small number of questions by the examination committee. The process of defending is part of the examination and will be evaluated accordingly.

The Examination Committee Assesses the Overall Performance
After the examination (diploma presentation and defense) is over, the student leaves the room (or video call if the meeting is virtual), in order to let the examination committee members discuss and evaluate the overall performance of the student for their diploma. Each professor from the committee evaluates the diploma using specific criteria and grade the student’s performance using the following evaluation scheme:
